Sustainable trends in office design

17. 1. 2022

Journal

If the previous two years have taught us anything, flexibility would be the answer. Flexible procedures, processes, and the physical workplace itself are essential to the long-term viability of an organisation.

Organizations have adopted and become accustomed to a variety of hybrid work arrangements: office-based employees, telecommuters, or a combination of the two. However, simply implementing this model does not guarantee success. A truly efficient, hybrid work environment supports a variety of work styles, including their schedules, allowing employees to be consistently productive no matter where they are. A flexible and adaptable organisation is ultimately the hallmark of a healthy company. What are the sustainable trends in office design? Check them out in our article.

The most interesting trend in this area is the move towards activity-based working. The most flexible workplaces make use of a wide range of spaces that individuals may need during the working day. Does the copywriter prefer a quiet quiet zone where no one disturbs him? The creative team, on the other hand, seeks a place that encourages intense brainstorming. However, companies should provide a hybrid environment for employees where it is easy to connect work with both remote and on-site environments. This makes it easy for employees to work together. We therefore consider investment in technology – communication tools and equipment for video conferencing in the workplace – a necessity.

Recently, companies have been turning to coworking solutions, where both collaboration space and quiet zones for quiet work meet. Similar to the internationally award-winning coworking space Base4Work.

An effective workplace is one that can be physically changed by its employees. Precisely so that the space can adapt to their specific needs. The cubicles that were known in the past were transformed into open space a little later. We are now somewhere in the middle with the office layout. The integration of both open and closed spaces that allow for the adaptation to different professions, working styles and tasks clearly represents a sustainable and flexible model.

How to imagine such an example? Individual seats can be turned into team spaces and meeting rooms can be reconfigured into private offices. The working day can start with concentrated work, but during the day it transforms into an enthusiastic brainstorming with colleagues. The new goal is to functionally change the workplace without excess cost.

The president of Steelcase, a smart workplace solutions company, is in
interview with Harvard Business Review
He let it be known that they optimized their own offices by designing an open space that supports hybrid meetings in the morning, becomes a café at lunchtime, hosts all hands meetings in the afternoon, and can be rented for events in the evening. The new goal becomes a functional change of workplace without excess costs.

A similar principle appears in the offices of IT companies
Websupport.
It can easily transform its chill zone into a lecture hall.

Organisations need to rethink their approach to their people, just as they do with their customers. More diverse and inclusive spaces will ultimately better support your employees. The office is supposed to bring people together and its flexibility is supposed to bring opportunities. Not only does a hybrid environment accelerate innovation and shift the culture of an organization, it also ensures real estate optimization. However, we should not forget that the scales of collective time and individual concentration should not be out of balance. The offices are still to form a supporting component for “me time” as well as “we time”.

In addition to the varied layout of the meeting rooms, the offices Pipedrive there is also a sauna and a full-fledged games room.
