What parts of the city are located in the office?
- City centre – square. A central space for gathering, informal meetings and socializing, such as a large kitchen or common area.Trust and relationships are built in this area.
- Residential areas – neighbourhoods. Quiet and peaceful zones where individuals or small teams can work in a focused way and stay connected.
- Business zone – business district. Spaces equipped for formal meetings, brainstorming presentations and important meetings. These are not just meeting rooms, but a range of shared spaces.
- Parks – green areas. Zones designed to relax, promote mental well-being and recharge your batteries, inspired by city parks.
- University campuses – study zones. Spaces that support learning and development, such as workshop rooms or shared libraries.
Why does that make sense?
Urbanism is based on the idea that the city is a system where each space serves a specific purpose, and that these spaces also complement each other. The same logic applies to modern offices – creating zones for different activities (concentration, collaboration, relaxation) increases efficiency and employee well-being.
Flexible and “mixed-use” approach
Just as residential, commercial and recreational areas often intermingle in the city, the office mixes different functions in one space. This allows people to move seamlessly between tasks and activities without wasting time or energy. This type of design is often referred to as a “mixed-use” approach.
Inspiration for your office design
When we think about workplace design, we consider the same principles that urban designers use: accessibility, functionality, but also aesthetics and community life. So an office can be like a well-designed city – a place where people feel comfortable, collaborate naturally, and where everyone can find a zone that fits their needs.
