Coliving is the answer to the challenges of contemporary urban living. At a time of rising rents, limited housing availability and the need to strengthen interpersonal relationships in the city, coliving is proving to be a sensible model that combines the benefits of shared housing with the comfort of private space. We propose coliving as affordable and sustainable urban housing that naturally combines privacy with community life.
Our approaches to coliving projects are based on a deeper understanding of how people live – and how they want to live. Each design includes efficient layouts that take into account the daily rhythms of residents, shared spaces for meeting and collaboration, and ample space for quiet and individual coexistence. A key element is the emphasis on natural light, sunlight in the living units, quality ventilation and a healthy indoor microclimate.
Coliving is an architectural and social framework that builds on the values of openness, flexibility and security. The house becomes an ecosystem of relationships – designed to naturally foster neighbourly bonds, encourage informal gatherings, while providing sufficient privacy for each individual.
Shared kitchens, dining rooms, workrooms, workshops, community gardens or even laundry rooms play an important role in our coliving designs. These spaces not only optimize costs and reduce material intensity, but also encourage green behaviour, shorten logistics chains and create a real space for community life.
In terms of architecture and urbanism, we approach these buildings as parts of the urban fabric that actively contribute to the development of the locality. We design houses that are not self-contained, but interact with their surroundings – for example in the form of shared courtyards, active parterres or accessible community services.
For us, sustainability is not just a technical parameter, but a thoughtful approach that combines material, energy and social aspects of design. We work with renewable and recycled materials, preferring long life, easy maintenance and a low ecological footprint. Energy efficiency, a focus on passive solutions and the possibility of adapting the house over time are a given.
We place special emphasis on the relationship between people and the environment. We believe that the architecture of coliving has the power to cultivate the way people live together – without it feeling forced. Good design creates natural conditions for sharing, friendship and peaceful coexistence, while leaving room for individual diversity.
Coliving is our concept of full-fledged urban living: flexible, affordable and environmentally friendly.
It responds to the needs of young professionals, students, singles, digital nomads, as well as older people looking for companionship and support in everyday life.
Our goal is not just to design buildings, but to create vibrant and functional communities. We see shared housing as a response to lifestyle changes, economic challenges and the climate crisis – an architectural approach that gives people the opportunity to live differently, together and meaningfully.
One of our projects is for example Coliving Smichov – a competition proposal that combines modern urban housing trends with thoughtful support for community life. The design offers extensive shared facilities in the form of a laundry, bike room, café, lounge area and rooftop bar. These spaces are designed to naturally strengthen relationships between residents and create an open, safe environment for everyday coexistence.
Another interesting coliving project is the student dormitories in Olomouc. They were inspired by the diverse layers of the city – traditional colours and brick elements remind us of history, while street art and art by local artists bring the contemporary cultural scene into the space. The abundance of greenery and plants then provides a visual and psychological comfort, connecting student life with nature. The result is a community environment that encourages not only study, but also gathering, relaxation and inspiration.
