We design congress and conference centres as vibrant and flexible spaces that respond to the diverse needs of organisers and visitors. Variability, acoustic comfort, logistics of operation and the representative character of the entire facility are key for us. We take into account the technical demands of modern events and create an environment that inspires and encourages interpersonal interaction.
We believe that a successful convention centre must work both on a small scale and for large international events. That is why we place emphasis on modular layout, easy orientation and quality facilities for organizers and visitors. The integration of sustainable technologies and barrier-free accessibility is a matter of course.
Congress centres as places of social identity
Convention centres are now much more than just conference venues. They are places where professionals, entrepreneurs, artists and the public meet. Their architecture must therefore combine a representative expression with openness and flexibility. Taking into account that the centre acts as a calling card for the city or region, we design buildings that can be a symbol of identity while standing the test of time.
Variability and technical background
Modern convention centres must offer different types of spaces – from large halls for thousands of participants to smaller conference rooms, lounges or coworking zones. Variability is important: the ability to easily divide, connect or adapt rooms to the needs of a specific event. We therefore pay great attention to acoustics, technical equipment and operational logistics. The right solution for catering, registration or service facilities is the key to the smooth running of any event.
Visitor comfort and orientation
The conference experience begins when participants enter the building. That’s why we make sure our conference centres feel welcoming and intuitive. Clear orientation, logical space division and ample rest areas help visitors feel comfortable. Equally important are outdoor spaces, forecourts, plazas or atriums that act as natural meeting and networking places.
Sustainability and long-term efficiency
Designing convention centres today cannot ignore the topic of sustainability. We work with renewable energy sources, rainwater management or smart building management systems. We use long-lasting materials and strive to minimize the carbon footprint of the building and operations. Sustainability is not only environmental but also economic; a well-designed convention center remains functional and efficient decades later.
Example: the Prachatice Library
Our experience with the creation of public spaces is illustrated by the project Prachatice Librarywhich we designed as a multifunctional educational centre. The city has long been looking for a suitable location for the library and a community space that could accommodate up to 90,000 visitors a year and allow for more than 300 events. The choice fell on the former firehouse in the city centre. Inside, we worked with an exposed structure, raw materials and a bold red color that references the building’s original function. The minimalist and purposeful space offers variable use and has become a new urban landmark thanks to its clean signature. This project shows that even a smaller cultural facility can function as a community centre with the character of a convention space.
Congress centres in an urban context
The location of the convention centre is crucial to its success. The building should be connected to the transport infrastructure, be easily accessible by public transport and by car, and at the same time offer quality surrounding public space. We design centres that are not isolated buildings, but actively connect to the urban fabric. In this way they become part of the everyday life of the city and contribute to its development.
The future of convention centres
The future of convention centres lies in their ability to respond to rapidly changing needs. Digitalisation, hybrid conference formats and increasing demands for sustainability are pushing the architecture of these buildings towards greater flexibility. We believe that the convention centres of the future will be places that combine cutting-edge technology with a human dimension, spaces where people love to meet, be inspired and forge new relationships.
