After studying architecture at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Czech Technical University, Marek Hinke went to Germany to gain experience, working first in Berlin for the conceptual studio magma architecture, with whom he participated in the design of offices in the United Arab Emirates, and then in Dresden for Heinle Wischer und Partner, where he collaborated on several university campus buildings. After returning to the Czech Republic, Marek worked as an architect in the de.fakto studio, where he designed residential houses and interiors. He then moved to Procházka & Partners, where he focused on office interiors. In 2019, he founded his own studio Hinke & Novák architekti, focusing on interior design.

We asked Mark a few questions, including trends in office design.

What do you think clients most often ask for in terms of the design of their current workplace?

They are mainly looking for places to work where their people will like to go. This means, among other things, that these spaces should resemble as little as possible the classic office environment and the stress associated with it.

What trend in office design has a chance to survive within the next few years?

Given the period of refurbishment of office fit-outs every 5-7 years or so, a focus on sustainability and working well with existing structures is key. It is important to look for opportunities to reuse them. But this is not exactly a trend, it is a necessity, where I think we will soon see major technological changes compared to the current standard of construction.

What do you perceive as the hallmark of the interiors of the Perspektiv studio and in what direction do you want to move them further?

I perceive, and am very close to, a design focus on the client’s identity and values, which logically leads to diverse and novel design approaches. I would like to see a further shift towards more cooperation with the art scene, a broadening of the types of interior typologies we deal with and, last but not least, more expansion abroad.

As Head of Interior, you will also be responsible for the design of retail spaces with the team. What function do you think brick-and-mortar stores serve in the age of e-commerce and why is their design important?

Nowhere else but in its own retail store does a brand have the opportunity to create such a strong bond with its clients and create its own, completely unique environment. In brick-and-mortar stores, the brand can communicate with customers exactly the way it wants. As popular as e-shops are, a well-designed brick-and-mortar branch gives customers a unique experience that the online world doesn’t yet offer.

What do you think the best office in the world should have?

Flexible workspaces that encourage collaboration and privacy with an emphasis on sustainability, technology integration and comfort, including zones for rest and health… and it shouldn’t look like a traditional office 🙂
